UPDATE: The Second CineCina Film Festival Postponed

The organizing committee of CineCina has decided to postpone the screening of Love and Duty until June 19th due to health concerns related to COVID-19 (Coronavirus). CineCina apologizes for any inconvenience caused by the schedule change, and shares the disappointment of Chinese film lovers who were looking forward to our film festival.

Yang Naifan, the daughter of an eminent feudal family, falls in love with
college student Li Zuyi. Pressured by Confucian tradition, she nonetheless agrees to an arranged marriage with Huang Daren, the heir of a noble family. Despite bearing a son and daughter together, husband and wife remain in a loveless relationship. As fate would have it, Li re-enters Yang’s life by chance and their romance is rekindled. This time, they decide to elope to the countryside together, though financial struggles eventually force them back to the city in search of work. But the young couple is ostracized by old society for not conforming with Confucian values, and when the toll of tumultuous hardships and
heavy burdens results in Li’s tragic death, Yang must make a life-changing decision for the sake of their daughter’s future.
